The Pediatric HHT program at the Children's Hospital if Colorado is an extension of the preexisting Vascular Anomalies Clinic (VAC), which is a complete multidisciplinary program that includes the following pediatric sub-specialties: General Surgery, Dermatology, Hematology, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Neurology, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Clinical Genetics and Genetic Counseling. As a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and clinical geneticist, I serve in both roles in this clinic, partnering with Leslie McCallen, MS, CGC, and with Gareth Morgan MD (interventional cardiology). Our mission is to diagnose HHT in children, and prevent early complications of this disease through early diagnosis and treatment using a fully multidisciplinary approach. Our particular role in the clinic is to provide genetic testing and counseling services for patients who meet clinical criteria for HHT or are at risk due to known family history. We also diagnose (using contrast electrocardiography and CT angiograms) and treat pulmonary AVMs in children, when indicated, using either cardiac catheterization or interventional radiologic approaches.
