Biography
Dr. Maria Del Pilar Bayona Molano, M.D., FSIR, serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Interventional Radiology at The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr Bayona Molano is Board Certified in Interventional Radiology and holds the American Board of Radiology QAL certification. She completed her fellowship training in Neuroradiology and Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio from 2008 to 2010. Following her residency program in Radiology at La Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, from 1997 to 2001.
Dr. Bayona Molano’s interests are centered on interventional oncology, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive treatments for portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapies in both the liver and pancreas, as well as arterial and pulmonary embolization procedures. Dr. Bayona Molano has made significant scholarly contributions, including notable publications on prognostic liver biomarkers in HCC patients and the radiological and surgical management of portal hypertension. Her research often showcases her innovative methodologies in interventional techniques and the management of patient care. Dr. Bayona did perform AVM procedures on HHT patients at the Cleveland Clinic while employed. Dr. Bayona since January 2025 has been seeing HHT patients at the University of Miami.
In addition to her clinical and research endeavors, Dr. Bayona Molano is a Distinguished Reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR), where she served as a special editor in 2021. She was honored as a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology in 2023 and received the Service Excellence Award from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in both 2012 and 2017.
